One cannot help but be captivated by the timeless design of the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE. This exceptional motorcycle pays homage to the iconic scramblers of yesteryear while incorporating modern styling cues. The result is a bike that effortlessly combines retro elements with contemporary aesthetics, creating a truly eye-catching machine.

One of the first features that draw attention is the high-mounted dual exhaust pipes. Not only do these pipes add to the bike’s rugged appeal, but they also provide a distinct and throaty exhaust note that amplifies the overall experience of riding the Scrambler 1200XE. It’s a visual and auditory treat that truly sets this motorcycle apart from the crowd.

Another striking detail is the wire-spoke wheels, which not only add to the classic vibe of the Scrambler 1200XE but also enhance its off-road capabilities. These wheels are not only durable but also contribute to the bike’s overall stability and control, ensuring that riders can confidently tackle any terrain.

The wide handlebars further enhance the rugged yet sophisticated appeal of the Scrambler 1200XE. These handlebars not only provide a comfortable riding position but also give riders precise control and maneuverability, whether they’re navigating through city streets or venturing off-road.

Triumph has paid meticulous attention to detail when it comes to the aesthetics of the Scrambler 1200XE. From the choice of striking colors like Fusion White, Brooklands Green, and Cobalt Blue to the brushed aluminum badges and black engine covers, every element has been thoughtfully designed to enhance the bike’s overall visual appeal.

The 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE is a true masterpiece when it comes to design. By seamlessly blending retro elements with contemporary styling cues, this motorcycle exudes a timeless charm that is hard to resist. From the high-mounted dual exhaust pipes to the wire-spoke wheels and wide handlebars, every detail has been carefully crafted to enhance both the visual appeal and performance of the Scrambler 1200XE. So, whether you’re cruising through city streets or exploring off-road trails, this bike is sure to turn heads and leave a lasting impression.

Engine and Performance of the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE

Underneath its captivating exterior lies a powerful engine that truly sets the Scrambler 1200XE apart. This motorcycle is equipped with a liquid-cooled, 1200cc parallel-twin engine that delivers an impressive 89 horsepower and 81 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a smooth 6-speed gearbox, allowing for seamless gear shifts during both on-road and off-road adventures.

The Triumph Scrambler 1200XE offers multiple riding modes, including Road, Rain, Off-Road, and Sport. Each mode alters the throttle response, traction control, and ABS settings to suit various riding conditions. This versatility makes the Scrambler 1200XE an ideal choice for riders who love to explore different terrains.

The 1200cc parallel twin engine retains its familiar essence from both the 2019-2023 Scrambler 1200 models and various other Bonneville-based motorcycles. However, Triumph has made some careful tweaks for the new model year.

Both the 1200 XC and the new 1200 X version now feature a new 50mm single throttle body. Alongside this, the exhaust headers have been subtly reprofiled. These changes, combined with revised mapping, have shifted the power and torque peaks down by 250rpm while maintaining the same maximum values. This translates to 89hp at 7,000rpm and 81.1lb-ft of torque at 4,250rpm. According to Triumph, there is also a broader spread of torque in the higher rev range, specifically from 5,000rpm to the 7,500rpm redline.

In addition to being more free-flowing, the revised exhaust design introduces more space between the pipes and the heatshields. This addresses the issue of excessive heat on the rider’s right leg that was associated with the high-level exhaust, which is a key element of the retro scrambler aesthetic. The increased space physically separates the pipe from the shield and allows for improved airflow to dissipate heat.

As in the previous models, the engine is mated to a six-speed transmission with a torque-assist clutch. The electronics package includes six riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain, Off-Road, Rider Configurable, and Off-Road Pro. The latter is exclusive to the 1200 XE variant. These modes not only adjust the engine mapping but also modify the settings of the cornering traction control and cornering ABS systems.

Handling & Suspension of the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE

The 2024 Scrambler 1200 XE retains its familiar appearance with gold-colored USD forks, Brembo-branded brakes, and piggyback rear shocks. However, all of these components are actually new for the upcoming year.

The most significant change is the switch of suppliers for the suspension. Instead of sourcing the forks from Showa and the twin rear shocks from Ohlins, Triumph has opted to acquire all suspension components from Marzocchi for 2024.

Similar to the previous model, the 45mm diameter forks are fully adjustable for compression, rebound, and preload. They offer 250mm of front wheel travel. The new twin shocks at the rear also provide a similar range of adjustability. Additionally, like the previous XE model, the swingarm is 52mm longer than that of the base model. This results in an increased wheelbase, ride height, and rear wheel travel, matching the front at 250mm. With the discontinuation of the previous XC model and its replacement with the new Scrambler 1200 X, which features lower, shorter-travel, non-adjustable suspension, the XE’s off-road advantage over its sibling is more pronounced than ever.

While Brembo supplied all the brakes for the previous generation, the 2024 Scrambler 1200 XE only receives Brembo front calipers. These calipers have been upgraded to Brembo Stylema radial four-pots, replacing the previous Brembo M50s. The discs remain at the standard size of 320mm. At the rear, where there used to be a Brembo two-pot caliper, a Nissin single-pot floating caliper with a 255mm disc is now present. Cornering ABS, governed by a Continental IMU, comes as standard.

Off-Road Capabilities of the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE

One of the standout features of the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE is its off-road prowess. With its long-travel suspension and high ground clearance, this motorcycle can tackle even the most challenging terrains with ease. The fully adjustable Öhlins suspension ensures a smooth ride, whether you’re navigating rocky trails or soaring over sand dunes.

To further enhance its off-road capabilities, Triumph has equipped the Scrambler 1200XE with tubeless spoked wheels and knobby tires. These components provide excellent grip and stability on loose surfaces, allowing riders to confidently explore uncharted territories.

Technology and Electronics of the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE

While the Scrambler 1200XE pays tribute to its classic roots, it doesn’t compromise on modern technology. Triumph has incorporated a range of advanced features to ensure a safe and convenient riding experience.

The motorcycle is equipped with a full-color TFT instrument panel that displays crucial information such as speed, gear position, fuel level, and riding modes. It also includes Bluetooth connectivity, allowing riders to pair their smartphones and access features like turn-by-turn navigation and music playback.

In terms of safety, the Scrambler 1200XE comes with cornering ABS and switchable traction control. These electronic aids provide additional stability and prevent wheel lock-up during sudden braking or acceleration.

The color TFT dash is carried over from the previous Scrambler 1200 XE. However, since the XC model has been replaced by the stripped-back 1200 X, the XE is now the only version to have it. There is a choice of contrast levels for the display, and the start-up screen can be personalized. With the optional connectivity module, it can be used for phone-based, turn-by-turn navigation, call handling, and music operation.

Cruise control comes as standard on the XE model, and both versions of the Scrambler 1200 can be customized with a range of over 70 optional accessories. These include luggage with a capacity of up to 102 liters, screens, and off-road-oriented protection and lighting.

The styling changes for 2024 are minimal, with smaller LED indicators and a new taillight. The XE model can be distinguished by its bare alloy mudguards, while the base X version has black ones.

Triumph Scrambler 1200X Review 2024: The Ultimate Adventure Motorcycle

Comfort and Ergonomics of the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE

Long rides are a joy on the Triumph Scrambler 1200XE, thanks to its comfortable seating position and ergonomic design. The wide handlebars offer excellent leverage and control while maneuvering through tight corners or uneven terrains. The seat is well-padded and provides ample support for extended periods in the saddle.

Triumph has also paid attention to the little details that enhance rider comfort. The footpegs are adjustable, allowing riders to find their preferred riding position. Additionally, the windscreen provides adequate wind protection without compromising the bike’s aesthetic appeal.

The seat height of 870mm remains the same as the previous Scrambler 1200 XE, but it can be reduced to 845mm with an optional low seat. The revised exhaust is a significant improvement in terms of comfort, as it promises to reduce heat transferred to the rider’s inner leg, assuming it functions as intended.

Compared to the lower, street-oriented Scrambler 1200 X, the XE model has bars that are 65mm wider. In addition to reversible risers for adjusting their position fore and aft, there is a 10mm spacer available to increase their height. The package also includes a new adjustable-span brake lever, adding further adaptability, and the foot controls are adjustable as well.

Triumph has not yet confirmed the bike’s fuel economy. However, considering the engine’s overall similarity to the previous model, it is unlikely to differ significantly from the previous machine’s 61.4mpg. In theory, this gives a range of 200 miles between fill-ups if one is willing to run the 15-litre tank completely dry. However, in day-to-day use, we found that a more realistic range is around 150 miles.

Customization Options of the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE

Triumph understands that every rider has unique preferences when it comes to personalizing their motorcycles. That’s why they offer a wide range of accessories specifically designed for the Scrambler 1200XE.

From panniers and tank bags for added storage capacity to heated grips and auxiliary lights for enhanced visibility, there are countless options available to tailor the Scrambler 1200XE to your liking.
