The bike comes with multiple riding modes, including Sport, Track, and Rain, allowing you to tailor the performance to your preferences and riding conditions. Additionally, the Tuono is equipped with advanced traction control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), and wheelie control, offering peace of mind and confidence when pushing the limits.

Ergonomics and Comfort

Despite its sporty nature, the 2015 Aprilia Tuono provides a surprisingly comfortable riding position. The ergonomics are well-designed, with a slightly forward-leaning posture that encourages an aggressive riding style without compromising rider comfort. It features a state-of-the-art digital instrument cluster that provides essential information at a glance, including speed, RPM, gear position, fuel level, and more. The bike also offers smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth, allowing riders to access navigation, music, and incoming call notifications through the intuitive interface.

Fuel Efficiency

While performance is undoubtedly a key aspect of the Aprilia Tuono, it also impresses with its fuel efficiency. Thanks to advanced engineering and fuel injection technology, the 2015 Tuono delivers respectable fuel economy figures for a bike of its caliber. Riders can expect an average of around 35-40 miles per gallon, making it a viable option for daily commuting as well as long-distance rides.

Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory

The Aprilia V4 1100 Factory, priced at £14,635, is one of the few motorcycles on the planet that combines high performance and advanced technology with real-world practicality.

Costing just £1500 more than the RR, the Factory model comes with fully-adjustable Ohlins rear shock, forks, and steering damper, as well as the Aprilia Racing ‘Superpole’ color scheme. The engine, chassis, brakes, and electronics are all the same as the base model.

2015 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR Chassis

The Tuono features a double-rail frame made of pressed and cast aluminum, derived from the chassis featured in the RSV4. The geometry of the frame has been revised: the rake is now 24.7 (down from 25.1) and the trail has been reduced to 99.7mm. The aluminum double-braced swingarm has also been revised and is now 4mm longer. The suspension consists of 43mm USD Sachs forks on the RR, with separate hydraulic compression and rebound adjustment, as well as spring preload on both stanchions. The travel is 120mm.

A Sachs shock with a built-in piggyback is also adjustable for compression, rebound, and preload. Both the fork and shock have been matched to the updated engine performance. The rear wheel travel is 130mm.

Braking is handled by top-notch Brembo Monobloc M432 calipers on the front end, with dual 320mm rotors and stainless steel braided brake lines leading to a Brembo radial master cylinder. On the rear, a Brembo two-piston opposed piston caliper is paired with a 220mm rotor, also equipped with stainless steel braided brake lines.

The wheels are Aprilia aluminum alloy rims with three-split spokes. The front wheel is a 3.50 x 17in item, while the rear wheel is a 6.00 x 17in item. Both wheels are fitted with Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa rubber – 120/70-17 for the front and 200/55-17 for the rear.

The RR version also features a non-adjustable Sachs steering damper. The seat height is 825mm, and the dry weight is 184kg.

Ride quality and brakes:

In terms of the chassis, there haven’t been any major changes. However, the old Tuono was always known for its agility, stability, and confidence-inspiring performance when ridden hard. The Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory still features a sturdy aluminum frame and swingarm, fully adjustable Sachs suspension (or Ohlins on the new Factory model), Brembo radial brakes, and grippy tires.

To handle the increased power and torque, Aprilia’s engineers have equipped the bike with a 4mm longer swingarm for stability and reduced the trail for improved agility. The engine is positioned lower in the frame to lower the center of gravity, and it now has new Brembo brake pads that offer better grip.

As a result, it requires even less effort to maneuver the Tuono precisely, even at high speeds and over rough terrain. The bike responds to the lightest inputs from the rider and provides a confident and connected riding experience.

It’s nearly impossible to reach the limits of what the new Tuono V4 1100 RR can do on the road. The bike offers so much potential through corners that taking it to a track would be necessary to truly explore its capabilities. Even then, you’d likely find that the Aprilia outperforms your own riding abilities.

The Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory is more comfortable, thanks to its softer new seat and narrower handlebars. Although the footpegs are rear-set like those on a race bike, there is still ample legroom. The new handlebar position and fairing also provide improved comfort for the head, shoulders, and neck.

Engine:

Aprilia claims that its new 1077cc V4 engine delivers an additional 20bhp in the midrange, and this claim is entirely believable. The engine provides smooth, effortless power throughout the rev range, making it unnecessary to frequently shift gears. This makes the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory a joy to ride.

But it’s not just about increased displacement. The compact V4 engine features larger pistons (3mm larger), lighter Pankl connecting rods (each 100 grams lighter), and improved crankcase ventilation. These enhancements result in a free-revving engine that delivers plenty of grunt.

The updated electronics ensure that the throttle response is clean and well-damped in all three electronic riding modes.

The engine powering the Tuono is a four-stroke 65 V4 with DOHC, four valves per cylinder, and a bore and stroke of 81 x 52.3mm, which is an increase from the previous 78mm bore to achieve the new 1077cc capacity. The compression ratio is 13.5:1.

Peak power has been increased by 5hp to 175hp at 13,000rpm, with an additional claimed 20hp now available at 8000rpm, with a focus on mid-range performance. Torque peaks at 121Nm at 10,500rpm.

The compact V4 engine benefits from a monobloc crankcase with integrated aluminum cylinder liners. The upper engine case has been manufactured using a new shell fusion technique, making it lighter and stronger. The air ventilation system for pressure inside the crankcase has also been revised to help reduce power loss.

The crankshaft connecting rod pins have been reduced to 36mm in diameter, and new pistons and Pankl connecting rods have been introduced to reduce weight. The removable gearbox and innovative timing system, which uses a chain to move the intake camshaft and returns motion to the exhaust camshaft through a single gear, have also been retained to keep the cylinder heads compact and narrow. A countershaft is also employed to help dampen vibrations.

The fuel delivery system consists of four Dell’Orto 48mm throttle bodies with two Marelli injectors each. These are controlled by the RbW engine management system, which also integrates the Magneti Marelli digital electronic ignition and utilizes one spark plug per cylinder.

The exhaust system features a four-into-two-into-one configuration, with twin O2 sensors and a single silencer. It also includes an ECU controlled bypass valve. The clutch is a wet multi-plate clutch with a mechanical slipper system.

2015 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR Electronics and Styling

The Tuono features Aprilia’s APRC system, which includes eight-level traction control (aTC), three-level wheelie control (aWC), adjustable launch control (aLC), and quick shifter (aQS). It also has a Bosch 9MP Race ABS system that includes rear wheel lift-up mitigation (RLM) with three levels of adjustability, as well as the ability to be disengaged.

Ride-by-wire is controlled by the latest Marelli control unit, with three maps that offer different power delivery but full power and engine braking management. The Track and Sport maps are now joined by Race, and all three maps are claimed to be both easier to manage and less aggressive than previous versions, resulting in a better relationship between the throttle and engine.

Styling has been revamped with a new headlight and front fairing, reducing the weight from the previous item by 1.5kg and increasing the aerodynamic penetration coefficient.

Both the new headlight and rail fairing are derived from the RSV4. The seat height has been lowered by 15mm from the previous model, and a new style of handlebar and switchblock integrated traction control buttons have been added.

2015 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR Track Opinion

I had the opportunity to do a quick 15-minute session on the Tuono at Sydney Motorsports Park and came away impressed. I rode the RSV4 back-to-back with the Tuono and enjoyed both equally on the track. The Tuono is not your average naked bike. It has firm suspension, an aggressive riding position for a naked bike, and radical geometry.

It handles unbelievably well on track and is well above other naked bikes in its class when it comes to track ability. I would say it is equal to the EBR 1190 SX on the racetrack and has more ground clearance and top end than the BMW, putting it ahead of the S 1000 R.

Reliability and build quality:

In addition to being fast, safe, comfortable, and a cornering genius, the new Tuono V4 1100 R is also a work of beauty and high-quality craftsmanship. Spending time with this bike in your garage, cleaning it and admiring its build quality, is as rewarding as taking it out for exhilarating rides (with the ABS switched off) and performing wheelies and skids.

Value compared to rivals:

The Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory is the second most expensive Super Naked bike on the market, after the KTM 1290 Super Duke R. However, you can clearly see where your money goes. It offers unrivaled performance, advanced electronics, and top-notch specifications.

Equipment:

The bike comes equipped with a powerful superbike engine, high-quality chassis and electronics, Brembo brakes, and fully adjustable suspension. There is also a wide range of optional performance and touring accessories available, including the new Aprilia ‘V4-MP’ datalogger, which can be used with a smartphone or tablet app to provide real-time telemetry.
