Honda CB125R accessories
Nor are many official Honda accessories available for the CB125R yet – although there is an increasing number of aftermarket options. Nose cowls by brands such as Givi or Ermax are popular choices and can help deflect some of the windblast that this naked bike experiences on longer, faster journeys. Investing in crash protection would be a wise move, considering the Honda’s quality and its likely appeal to novice riders. Additionally, a top box might be appealing to those who commute regularly without compromising the bike’s maneuverability in traffic.
For added styling at the rear end, you may also want to consider a Honda CB125R tail tidy, which is available from brands like RG Racing or Pyramid Plastics. For those who are more enthusiastic, investing in a sporty Honda CB125R exhaust can provide added entertainment.
Handling and Ride Quality
One of the standout features of the Honda CB125R is its nimble handling and balanced ride quality. Thanks to its lightweight chassis and well-tuned suspension setup, this bike feels confident on both straight roads and twisty corners. The front upside-down forks offer excellent stability while absorbing bumps effectively. Additionally, the wide handlebars provide precise control for effortless maneuvering.

Equipped with front and rear disc brakes with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) as standard, this bike provides reliable and controlled stopping power even in emergency situations. The ABS feature prevents wheel lock-up, ensuring stability during hard braking.

Equipment Of Honda CB125R
Replacing the fully-faired CBR125R sportster as Honda’s flagship 125, the CB125R brings a level of sophistication to the roadster genre. It offers big bike looks and components, claiming the lightest weight in its class and a near 300-mile tank range.
The CB features an easy-to-read and operate LCD dash. It shares the same frame and 41mm upside-down Showa forks as its larger counterpart, the CB300R. This explains why the CB125R has more purposeful “big bike” proportions. These features also make it suitable for experienced riders seeking an affordable inner-city commuter.
Additionally, the CB125R includes an appropriately-damped, non-adjustable rear shock, full LED lighting both front and rear (including indicators), IMU-operated two-channel ABS, and a fancy four-piston, radially-mounted front brake caliper. However, it may not provide as much bite as expected.
Nonetheless, there are some imperfections. The fancy “reversed” LCD digital display is stylish, generally clear and easy to read. It conveniently includes a fuel gauge, gear selection indicator, and clock. However, in certain conditions like bright sunshine, it is susceptible to glare.
Maintenance and Reliability
Honda motorcycles are renowned for their reliability, build quality, and ease of maintenance – the CB125R is no exception. With regular servicing intervals recommended by the manufacturer, owners can enjoy peace of mind knowing that their bike is built to last. Genuine spare parts are widely available in authorized service centers or through Honda dealerships for hassle-free maintenance.
Price and Value for Money
One of the most attractive aspects of the Honda CB125R is its affordability while still providing excellent value for money. Compared to larger displacement motorcycles in its class, the CB125R offers a competitive price point that is accessible to budget-conscious riders. Considering its stylish design, performance, fuel efficiency, and Honda’s reputation for reliability, the CB125R stands out as an excellent investment.
Reliability & build quality
Honda has a well-deserved reputation for quality and reliability, and the CB125R lives up to this reputation. Almost everything about this stylish 125cc motorcycle indicates quality: the paint is glossy and deep, the metal finishes are generally good (with one exception), and all components, cycle parts, and ancillaries such as switchgear and mirrors are top-notch.
Furthermore, the owners’ reviews for the Honda CB125R are overwhelmingly positive. So Honda’s legendary build-quality is still worth the hype, with many owners claiming it’s a fantastic first big bike.
The single-cylinder engine has also been well tested with no significant problems reported.
However, it’s not without its flaws. During our initial test of the CB125R on its press launch in Portugal, we encountered some issues where the transmission mysteriously refused to shift from neutral into first gear. At the time, we attributed it to being a ‘sticky’ pre-production machine with low mileage. Since then, we haven’t heard of any owner complaints regarding this issue, so we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt.
As mentioned earlier, some owners have also noticed that the front four-piston radial caliper can be vague at times and lacks the initial bite that learners desperately need. This has been a recurring complaint.
Additionally, another common complaint is the positioning of the battery under the tank, which makes it difficult to install a USB power socket. However, the biggest complaint regarding the CB125R is related to excessive corrosion on the black exhaust paint finish. Multiple owners have noted this issue occurring within a year of ownership. If considering purchasing a used bike, be sure to check for this problem and as an owner, regular cleaning and protection with products like ACF-50 is recommended. Mechanically though, there have been no reported issues.
Value vs rivals
Honda’s stylish CB125R is not only a great bike, but it also offers excellent value for money. When it was first released, the Honda CB125R was the second cheapest option in its class (behind the less-equipped Suzuki GSX-S125), yet it boasted similar specifications to the more expensive Aprilia SX125, KTM 125 Duke, and Yamaha MT-125. The Honda CB125R is also impressively affordable to run and, as a used purchase, it offers even better value due to its proven reliability and high quality. So yes, with the little CB, you can indeed have your cake and eat it too.
Another advantage of choosing Honda is that you benefit from a strong dealer network with the CB125R—a luxury not shared by Aprilia or KTM to the same extent. Furthermore, there should be little cause for concern when it comes to running costs.
Owners have reported fuel consumption figures approaching 100mpg, and although the CB125R’s performance may be slightly softer compared to rivals like the MT-125, this means that its consumption of consumables such as brake pads, tires (although replacing the fat rear tire may be costlier than most), chain, and sprockets should also be fairly minimal.
While Honda spare parts may not be the cheapest on the market, the CB125R’s service intervals are fairly standard and owners report an annual servicing cost of around £150 (although this will increase significantly for major valve adjustment checks), which shouldn’t discourage potential buyers either.
The CB125R also makes sense as a used purchase. Apart from some issues with exhaust paint durability, this bike has proven to be reliable. Although Honda retains its value better than most other brands and the CB125R is popular among buyers, its low initial purchase price means that used prices are not prohibitively high. Find a good one and you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank.
Price of Honda CB125R
At £3949 OTR the new Thai-built Honda undercuts most of its opposition, only being beaten by Suzuki’s GSX-S125 which comes in at £3699 or £3799 for the GP replica painted version. As the bike is squarely aimed at new riders expect PCP deals to sit around the £100 per month mark.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Honda CB125R is a fantastic option for riders who value style, performance, and reliability in an affordable package. With its sleek design, responsive engine, agile handling, and array of features, this motorcycle ticks all the boxes for both new riders and experienced commuters alike. Whether you’re navigating city streets or enjoying weekend rides on winding roads, the Honda CB125R is sure to provide endless fun and excitement on two wheels.
